The minor in Australian Indigenous Studies introduces students to Australian Indigenous Studies, presenting students with opportunities to develop insight into the breadth, depth and diversity of First Peoples' knowledges and ways of knowing, the diverse perspectives and experiences of Australia’s First Peoples. Centring the scholarship of First Nations and other Indigenous scholars in Australia, students are introduced to the basic precepts that have supported the longest underpin first laws of this place, ways of knowing and being, including the relationships with and within Country. Study the scholarship of Australian Indigenous scholars, including senior knowledge holders.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate an informed understanding of and insight into First Nations and other Indigenous Peoples' diverse perspectives on past and shared histories since colonisation commenced in Australia;
- demonstrate an informed understanding of and insight into First Peoples' diverse knowledges and ways of knowing;
- demonstrate an informed understanding and insight into First Peoples cultures, traditions and their continuities; and
- demonstrate insight and informed understanding of colonisation and the impacts of colonialism on First Peoples and Australian society broadly.
