Philosophy is the systematic exploration and analysis of fundamental questions about the world around us and the human condition. This minor provides students with the opportunity to focus on issues that intersect with advancements in empirical sciences. Introductory courses in this minor provide students with foundational analytical and critical thinking skills essential for these investigations, while more advanced courses explore topics concerning the nature of scientific knowledge and challenges arising from specific scientific disciplines.

Learning Outcomes

  1. examine and describe major issues, theories, and positions related to science and scientific practice;
  2. critically evaluate arguments and analyse their core concepts, assumptions, and implications; and
  3. articulate and defend written and oral arguments for and against positions using rationally persuasive argumentation.
