The ANU is a world-leading centre for advanced research on the politics of Asia and the Pacific. This major allows students to develop an expertise in the politics of the region and comparative politics, equipping them with the skills to analyse and compare political systems and phenomena. The major provides opportunities for students to concentrate on politics of China, Indonesia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Northeast Asia, and the Pacific. An Asia-Pacific politics major provides students with a solid foundation upon which to develop a career specialising in the politics of this dynamic region.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand and evaluate historical and current events and developments that have shaped the politics of the Asia-Pacific.
- Develop the critical thinking necessary to Identify and critique the patterns of governance, social structures and political institutions in the Asia-Pacific.
- Analyse the similarities and differences between the political systems within the Asia-Pacific.
- Understand the processes and disciplinary approaches through which current knowledge about the politics of the Asia-Pacific has developed.
- Communicate complex ideas in writing and speech, justifying methods and approaches as appropriate
