This course provides an overview of recent developments and new directions in Australian writing. It will look at recent writing in Australia across a range of genres, including those that blur the boundaries between fiction and non-fiction. We will consider how Australian writers have engaged with pressing global questions - for example, the ongoing effects of settler colonialism and gendered violence - as well as how the world continues to read Australia through its works of literature. The course will also examine the workings of the contemporary Australian literary field: the world of publishing, funding and literary reception that enables the writing and reading of literature in this country.
