Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

Indicative Assessment

1. Assessment will reflect a combination of grades awarded by teaching staff (convenors), feedback from external members of the Investment Advisory Committee, and peer evaluation by other enrolled students. Grades will reflect evaluation of: written research reports and supporting analysis; presentations of investment cases to the enrolled student group and Investment Advisory Committee; teamwork; and contributions to furthering the long-term goals of the SMF. The latter would reflect aspects such as engagement with external parties, effort put into building management processes and infrastructure that support the SMF, and attention to training of students enrolled in Student Managed Fund. Students will be graded on their participation and involvement in SMF group meetings, and engagement with external parties as appropriate. (null) [LO null]

Workload

Students will be expected to commit 10-12 hours per week on average, although the workload may be uneven and some passionate students may choose to dedicate additional time. In addition to the 3-hour weekly SMF meeting, this time would be spent on activities such as: investment analysis; research into topics related to the management of the fund; preparation of reports and presentations; and communicating and engaging with other students, the convenors, the Investment Committee and external parties.

Assumed Knowledge

To enrol in this course you must have completed FINM3008; and FINM3009 (in the semester immediately preceding enrolment with a grade of at least a credit).
 
A passion for, and basic understanding of, investing will be an important part of the selection criteria. Evidence of ability to work in teams and good communication skills will be valued.
