This course will enable students to converse, read and write about more complex topics and to discuss ideas and information in Persian. Students will also build on their knowledge of grammar based on what they learned in the previous years. By living in a Persian-speaking country and interacting with the community around them, students will develop confidence and competence using the language in the setting where it is spoken. In addition, students will be able to gain insight into the Persian culture in general and Iranian culture in particular. This unit is an 'immersion' language and cultural programme in which the students study Persian language and culture in a Persian-speaking environment. These experiences cannot be taught in Australian classrooms.
The course will be taught by a lecturer from the ANU Persian Language program, in facilities located at the University of Isfahan Language Centre, Isfahan, Iran.

1. Demonstrate sufficient comprehension to understand most factual material in relatively technical prose as well as some discussions on concrete topics related to personal and social interests.

3. Demonstrate ability to write and translate short non-technical texts of moderate difficulty from Persian to English and vice versa using a dictionary.
4. Comprehend conversations of personal, social topics at upper- intermediate level.
Indicative Assessment
1. Class presentations 30% [Learning Outcome 2].
2. Conversational Persian (prepare and deliver dialogues - five pieces) 20% [Learning Outcomes 1-3].
3. Special project 20% comprised of:
Part one (10%): 1000 word written assignment in Persian about one or more of the topics listed in the course guide.
Part Two (10%) of 20 minutes oral presentation followed by a ten minute discussion [Learning Outcomes 2, 4].
4. Final Assessment 30% comprised of:
Written 20%: includes four sections comprehension & vocabulary, grammar, writing & translation. All the materials, topics, discussions & activities covered during the semester are included. The test duration is two hours plus 15 minutes reading time. [All Learning Outcomes]
Oral 10%: [Learning Outcomes 4, 2].
1) Reading: Students will be asked to read a paragraph or two nominated lessons (2.5 minutes / 2.5 %)
2) Vocabulary: Students will be asked about the meaning of ten words from nominated lessons (2.5 minutes / 2.5 %)
3) Speaking: Students will be asked to speak about a nominated topic (5 minutes / 5 %):
The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity.
