This course is one of a suite of research and development courses designed for the BE (R&D) Program. These courses are of varying length and are offered at different stages of the degree program and are essentially stand-alone research projects. ENGN2707 is a 2nd year 6-unit research course that runs in semester 2 and is not compulsory for the R&D degree. It is designed to complement ENGN2706 and the students' basic research skills through non-trivial research work in an area chosen by the student. Each student will have their research supervised by one or more academic supervisors, with the approval of Head of Department or the Delegated Authority. Students are responsible for engaging and obtaining appropriate supervisory support.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Understanding of process of identifying and formulating research problem; planning and implementing specific research tasks (simulation/experiment) and communicating outcomes.- Design and conduct experiments, devise appropriate measurements, analyse and interpret data and form reliable conclusions.
- Demonstrate an improved ability to use an active approach to learning and to undertake reflective professional practice.
- Ability to Carry out literature searches and some ability to critically evaluate literature.
- interpret, explain and evaluate results generated during the project and compare and contrast the literature.
- Combine and demonstrate synthesis of new knowledge with the application of relevant underlying theory, skills, concepts and methodologies, while understanding the importance of documenting all aspects of the development of an engineering project of significant magnitude.

Other Information
Do not take this course if you are doing a Flexible Double Degree with Engineering R&D. You will not have room in your program to fit it in.The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity.
