Honours calculation
The final Honours Exit Level is the sum of all achieved course weightings. The course weighting is calculated for each individual course using the below formula:
(unit value of course/total units for degree) x final numerical grade of the course

Once you have met the program requirements of your degree, you may have enough electives to complete an additional elective major, minor or specialisation.
Admission Requirements
An AQF Level 7 Bachelor Degree or equivalent, completed within the last two years:
in a cognate discipline
completion of one of the following majors or equivalent:
completion of ECON3100 Economics 3(H) (or equivalent) and ECON2125 Optimisation for Economics and Financial Economics (or equivalent) with a weighted average mark equivalent to an ANU 70 per cent calculated from the 36 units (i.e. 0.75 EFTSL) of courses with highest final marks, excluding 1000-level courses (i.e. introductory undergraduate courses), from courses from one of the majors which must include 18 units from ECON3100 Economics 3 (H), ECON3101 Microeconomics 3 and ECON3102 Macroeconomics 3.
The number of places available in the program are subject to supervisory capacity.

Adjustment Factors
ANU offers rank adjustments for a number of adjustment factors, including for high achievement in nationally strategic senior secondary subjects and for recognition of difficult circumstances that students face in their studies. Rank adjustments are applied to Bachelor degree applicants with an ATAR at or above 70. Points are awarded in accordance with the approved schedules, and no more than 15 points (maximum 5 subject/performance-based adjustments, maximum 10 equity-based adjustments and maximum 5 Elite Athlete adjustments) will be awarded. Honours in Economics is a program offered within the Research School of Economics that offers students who have excelled in their undergraduate studies a challenging but rewarding year of study in economics. We seek outstanding students who are keen to undertake independent economics research with the guidance from academic staff. Application deadline:
The Bachelor of Economics (Honours) will be commencing in Semester 1 (February) only each year.
Deadline for S1 is 30th November (11:55pm Australian Eastern Daylight Time).
Notification of outcome: Applicants will be notified of the outcome for admission by 15th January
Acceptance deadline:
If applicants are successful in receiving an offer, the acceptance deadline is 31st January
Application materials
Applicants must provide complete documentation, including a certified or coloured copy of testamur and final transcript (except for ANU students). Applicants must also attach a maximum THREE-page document detailing their research proposal to their application. The proposal should contain the following elements:
- Research question
- Motivation for the question
- Some preliminary discussion of relevant literature
- Bibliographic reference
- Potential RSE Supervisor's name (you are advised to talk to potential supervisors and obtain their agreement to supervise prior to applying)
