ICT is both part of the problem and part of the solution to climate change. In this course students learn first how to assess the carbon footprint of the ICT operations of an organization, then how to develop a strategy to reduce these emissions. The adverse environmental effects of the materials used in the manufacture ICT equipment is also covered.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Evaluate the sustainability of IT services, devices and day-to-day operations of an organisation, including the carbon footprint and e-waste.
- Prepare a sustainability strategy for IT in an organisation, covering both energy and materials use

An e-book of materials is provided, along with quizzes, videos and discussion forums. Face-to-face workshops are provided to help the student deepen their knowledge.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload
To complete the subject you will need to spend 8-10 hours each week in workshops, reading, preparing assignments, communicating with peers and tutors. Three hours of face-to-face workshops are provided each week to assist you. The workshops require preparatory reading, and active participation working with other students.
