This is a supervised project, involving no program of lectures. A translation into English or from English of a previously untranslated literary or non-literary text will be accompanied by a detailed commentary in which the process of translation is described and the motivation for the translation choices set forth. Students will be required to devote attention to semantic, syntactic, structural and lexical differences between the languages in question, in addition to cross-cultural matters and, where appropriate, questions of aesthetics. The commentary will be informed by reading in the field of Translation Studies.

Workload
130 hours of total student learning time made up from:a) 12 hours of contact over 12 weeks: 6 hours of individual contact hours and 6 hours of workshop and workshop-like activities ; and
b) 118 hours of independent student research, reading, writing and translating.

Assumed Knowledge
Reading knowledge of a second language at an advanced level, students will be expected to have completed either LANG6001 or LANG6002 or equivalent to get permission to enrol.Fees
