The aim is to recognise the efforts of high-achieving students in the organising committee of ANU Asia Pacific Week and allow the student to engage deeply with one conference panel. The conference is an opportunity for students to work closely with the college and apply the knowledge they have acquired into running a week-long academic event. This involves placement in one portfolio (Logistics, Delegates, Media and Marketing, Finance, Content and Special Project) and 10 months commitment to the projects and duties of that portfolio. During the placement the student will receive advice and direction from College Staff and the course Convenor.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Contribute to the organisation of a large and complex event;
- Express and deliver information to a range of stakeholders professionally;
- Collaborate professionally with stakeholders on the formulation and implementation of complex projects;
- Identify, analyse and address complex issues.

- Learning journal (2,500 words) kept by the student reflecting on tasks undertaken, the knowledge and skills acquired, challenges worked through, and an overall evaluation of the experience. (40) [LO 1,2]
- Engaging with conference themes (1000 words) short research or analytical project engaging with a topic related to the conference theme or to one of the academic panels. The format of such a project can be of the student’s choosing - magazine, essay, policy brief, podcast, infographic, etc. This must be accompanied by a bibliography or list of scholarly, policy, media and other sources consulted. - Conference handbook and guide for future APW committees (60 pages) Students enrolled in ASIA3023 will compile and edit this handbook building on the 2020 and 2021 versions. They will need to work with the College, and committee members of all portfolios to gather and format the content. (30) [LO 2,3]
The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Workload
Placement in an allocated portfolio on the Asia Pacific Week organising committee. Systematic and frequent journal entries, and regular correspondence with the student committee director. Attendance at team meetings and meetings with the course convenor.Inherent Requirements
