COMP8800 is an Annual course (12+12) that must be completed twice, in consecutive semesters.
This course requires students to conduct a substantial individual research project under academic supervision, with a formal thesis being submitted and presentation of a seminar or poster.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Identify a question/problem in a particular field of computing and devise a plan for a research project to investigate the topic.
- Implement effective literature search and critical evaluation skills to complete a literature survey in the project topic area.
- Select and apply appropriate research methods, tools, techniques to develop research findings and insights.
- Effectively communicate research questions, methods and outcomes in oral, written and graphical forms to a broad audience using appropriate tools.
- Produce a structured written thesis demonstrating an advanced understanding of the chosen research area.

This capstone course will allow you to apply your Computer Science knowledge and skills in the planning and execution of your research project. This course provides you with the opportunity to deeply engage with the course content, drive your leaning, build skills and confidence in undertaking a research project.

Please note MMLCV students need to receive permission to enroll in this course from both their Program convener and the Course convener and they will need to use 12 units of their ANU electives to complete this course.

Workload
Annual Course. Student enrol in Semester 1 and Semester 2 in consecutive semesters. No formal classtime is required in this course. Students will meet regularly with their supervisor throughout the semester.
