Combining research with service learning, students will engage with Pacific Islander communities in Canberra, Pacific-focused policy agencies or NGOs to design and undertake an intensive collaborative research project. Students will be mentored by ANU academics and collaborate with groups and organisations to research issues that affect Pacific communities within and outside Australia. The objective of the course is to produce an original piece of research, using the interdisciplinary methods and approaches to research learned over the course of your Pacific Studies degree.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Identify and discuss key issues facing Pacific communities both within and outside Australia;
- Identify and apply different research methodologies and approaches to their chosen topic;
- Produce an individual research project utilising a range of research techniques and demonstrating skills in writing and analysis;
- Evaluate and report on their practical experience combining research with service learning.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload
This course comprises some 130 hours of activity over 12 weeks, including some 24 contact hours, 106 hours of research work. Please note this is a general guide, averaged over the semester and the final hours ultimately depend on the individual's ability in reading and writing.
