The Management Core comprises four courses that provide a common foundation for all Research School of Management (RSM) postgraduate coursework programs. This common core will enable students within RSM to have a broad understanding of key management discipline areas that will support future studies towards a wide range of potential career paths. The common core also provides scope for students to transition between programs (if desired).
Graduate Knowledge
Graduates with a specialisation in Management Core will have a coherent body of knowledge of the fundamental principles of management disciplines, and an understanding of conceptual frameworks as a basis for future discovery in education and practice.
Graduate Skills
Graduates with a specialisation in Management Core will have:
- Competencies centred around evidence and that they are expected to develop and maintain throughout their studies and ultimately translate into their working life;
- Skills in formulating strategies that correspond to the current context in international business environments;
- Skills related to principles and management of projects and information technology in a business context; and,
- Marketing and business communication skills where principles of EBM are applied to audience selection, message framing, stakeholder identification and problem solving.
In addition to these, students will also develop:
- Cognitive skills to review, analyse, consolidate and explore knowledge, and insights into relevant applications;
- Technical skills to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental applications with insight and creativity;
- Cognitive skills to exercise critical thinking, creative problem solving and evidence led judgement in recognising, and addressing problems; and,
- Communication skills to present concise and coherent exposition of knowledge, and to convey ideas in an appropriate language for business audiences.
Application of Knowledge and Skills
Graduates with a specialisation in Management Core will demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills
- with initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in professional practice and/or scholarship;
- to adapt knowledge and skills in diverse contexts; and,
- with responsibility and accountability for own learning and professional practice and in collaboration with others within broad parameters.

Requirements
This specialisation requires the completion of 24 units, which must consist of:
18 units from completion of the following courses:
MGMT7250 - Evidence-Based Management (6 units)
BUSI7280 - Managing in a Global Context (6 units)
MGMT7020 - Technology and Project Management (6 units)
6 units from the completion of a course from the following list:
MKTG7260 - Marketing and Stakeholder Communications (6 units)
MKTG7001 - Marketing for Leaders (6 units)
Students enrolled in the Master of Business Administration or Master of Business Administration (Advanced) must complete MKTG7001.
