Data analysis is a central activity in applied epidemiology providing underlying evidence for public health policy formulation and action. The aim of the Analysis of Public Health Data course is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to analyse quantitative public health data. The course combines biostatistics theory with practical application of biostatistical methods. 

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Develop and execute an appropriate data analysis plan to answer a research question.
  2. Use appropriate statistical software to perform a range of statistical analyses.
  3. Interpret results from a variety of statistical analyses.
  4. Communicate findings of data analysis to a range of stakeholders.

Workload

The expected workload will consist of approximately 130 hours throughout the session including:

  • The face-to-face component will be delivered in intensive mode over one week, Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm (total 35 hours).
  • Approximately 95 hours of self-directed study, including self-directed learning modules, and pre-reading before the intensive week, and assessments.
