This course has been designed to help students master Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) at a high pace through a systematic approach as presented in the book series Al-Kitaab fii Ta‘allumi al-‘Arabiyya Part II. This course aims to bring students to a high level of proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic in speaking, listening, reading and writing. In addition, it trains students to continue their linguistic development. This will be achieved through interacting with a variety of written and spoken texts and materials.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- read and comprehend the core information, supporting details and primary implicit meanings of longer texts authentic written texts, moving into reading novels and complex essays, articles, and documents;
- critically analyse and compare a variety of texts and films in terms of its aesthetic, linguistic, historical and societal components and demonstrate a cultural understanding of Arabic language in a communicative context;
- increase their knowledge of the cultural and sociolinguistic aspects of Arabic; and
- engage in extensive critical dialogue with classmates and convenor in Arabic.
