The courses in the Performance major and minor provide students with opportunities to develop their artistic practice and skills in music performance. The first of the sequential music performance courses supports students in developing proficiency in both solo and ensemble settings while also building practical skills in organising and supporting musical projects. Students will participate in one-to-one sessions with vocal/instrumental teachers, ensemble rehearsals, seminars, and other practical and academic contexts.
All students wishing to enrol in this course must successfully complete an audition.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- demonstrate foundation level understanding of terminology, characteristics of style, and historical concepts as they relate to musical works;
- demonstrate a foundation level of technical proficiency, and an emerging understanding of the emotional content in musical works;
- work independently and collaboratively to develop proficiency in understanding the craft of musical performance and its presentation to an audience; and
- critically analyse material and aesthetical elements of music, demonstrating an ability to provide feedback and pose research questions in both written and verbal formats.
Work Integrated Learning
Simulation/Virtual
This course gives students real world experience working with an ensemble and ensemble director towards a public performance. Students will receive and prepare repertoire, rehearse with other musicians, and then present their work in a concert which is open to the public.
