The Intensive Functional Persian Language Course is developed to build fundamental language skills required for an Advanced Targeted Proficiency Level. This course provides a systematic learning program that enables learners to communicate effectively using the language at a high level and in a range of different functions such as everyday activities and present/future professional work. The course covers four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing and translation. 

Apart from covering the key grammatical points, formal and informal vocabulary and fixed key phrases, the course also encompasses sociolinguistic and sociocultural aspects of the Persian Language and provides an introduction to press and media. The course is based on a platform of a communicative language and enables correct and appropriate interaction in a given context, from everyday practical and social language to formal specific situations.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. participate effectively in formal and informal conversations and communicate personal views including discussing issues of concern;
  2. skim and scan media articles and acquire the ability to understand the general ideas presented in the media;
  3. summarize informational reports, instructions and basic media articles;
  4. negotiate services and satisfy routine and social demands; and
  5. use protocols and key phrases for daily activities and work.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload

130 hours of total student learning time consisting of 36 hours of contact over three weeks (online lectures, tutorials and structured activities) and 94 hours of independent student research, reading and writing.

Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol in this course you must have completed PERS3006 Advanced Persian 2 or have an equivalent level of language proficiency as demonstrated by a placement test or permission of the convenor.
