An introduction to selected quantitative techniques widely used in psychological research and practice, including applications of statistical techniques in the design and analysis of experiments and surveys, and in psychological measurement.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Conduct and interpret descriptive statistics, correlation, regression, t-tests and ANOVA.
- Select appropriate data analysis strategies for common research designs in psychology.
- Communicate the results of quantitative psychological research accurately.
- Critically evaluate psychological research according to the quality of research methods, appropriateness of analyses and conclusions.
- Identify biases that limit the conclusions of psychological research, including cultural biases and assumptions.

Final exam is a hurdle. A Pass mark (50%) or greater is required in the final examination before the course can be passed as a whole.

Workload
The expected workload will consist of approximately 130 hours throughout the semester including:
- Approximately 3 hours of live (lectures/Q&A) and pre-recorded activities (lectures) per week and 16 hours of laboratories spread across the semester.
- Approximately 78 hours of self-directed study which will include preparation for lectures and other assessment tasks.
