This course aims to extend the students' ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both in spoken and written Spanish, at B2.1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages. It explores and helps students become confident in the use of selected aspects of Spanish grammar, vocabulary, reading, conversational and writing skills. Students are also exposed to complex texts and audio-visual materials in which the contemporary cultures and societies of Spanish-speaking countries are explored in detail.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- communicate orally in Spanish with substantially comprehensible and intelligible pronunciation, both spontaneously and in prepared contexts;
- communicate in writing in Spanish integrating relevant vocabulary and grammar to complete a task;
- apply knowledge of Spanish grammar and metalinguistic awareness to produce complex linguistic structures orally and in writing;
- demonstrate command of a wide range of vocabulary and idiomatic expressions in Spanish, and familiarity of these across varieties of Spanish; and
- demonstrate broad expertise in critical thinking by understanding, synthesising and interpreting increasingly complex themes, texts and figures of Hispanic culture, and using the appropriate discursive and argumentative language.
