The ANU Major in Public Policy equips you with a comprehensive understanding of Australian public policies and related international policies.

Our program is designed to develop the skills and knowledge you need to gather and analyse a range of economic, demographic and social data, to evaluate public policies and programs, and to participate in policy design, advocacy and communication. You may also have the opportunity to attend the Australian National Internships Program.

This flexible major also enables students to include internships and other options in their study; and/or to take a second major or minor in another field including International Relations and Political Science.

Learning Outcomes

  1. demonstrate understanding of differences in the contexts in which public policy operates;
  2. apply concepts and theories used in the study of public policy;
  3. apply a range of research methods to the investigation of public policy; and
  4. communicate and debate both orally and in writing, and work with others, using a variety of media.

Requirements

The Public Policy major requires the completion of 48 units, of which:

a maximum of 18 units may come from the completion of 1000-level courses and

a minimum of 18 units must come from the completion of 3000-level courses
