The Performance major provides students with opportunities to develop skills in music performance. Each of the six required Performance courses will support students in developing an increasing proficiency in both solo and ensemble music performance, culminating in a capstone course in which students prepare a significant program of work for public performance. Learning and teaching activities will include lectures, small group teaching, one-to-one teaching, masterclasses, and ensemble work. All students wishing to enrol in these courses must successfully complete an audition.

Learning Outcomes

  1. demonstrate the specialist technical and cognitive skills involved in music performance;
  2. work independently and collaboratively to develop an understanding of the craft of musical performance and its presentation to an audience; and
  3. critically analyse material and aesthetical elements of music, demonstrating an ability to provide feedback and pose research questions in both written and verbal formats.

Other Information

Entry into the Performance Major is via audition only. Information regarding the Performance entry audition can be found on the School of Music's website.
