Students enrolled in Museum and Heritage Studies may seek the approval of the program coordinator to undertake an independent research project. The aim of the project is to allow students to apply the conceptual and methodological skills they have developed in the program to a particular research question, issue, or case study gained from professional or first-hand experience. Projects will be designed in conjunction with and supervised closely by appropriate experts.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- independently identify and construct a coherent research question;
- synthesise and articulate key concepts in the various disciplines that contribute to the field of museum studies;
- apply methodological, conceptual and analytic tools to advanced level research into museums, collections, or a related field;
- write a research project that applies conceptual and methodological skills that addresses a particular research question, issue, or case study; and
- model best practice and have a commitment to ethical, reflective practice in regard to work and analysis in the relevant field of inquiry.

This course is available both as a face-to-face course for students based in Canberra and also as a distance (fully online) course for external students. The online course materials will be available through http://wattlecourses.anu.edu.au/

Workload
